Day 7 Overview

Total Miles for day 7 was only about 42 miles, mostly consisting of a loop departing from Grizzly Bear Campground near Keystone, SD to Mount Rushmore and then through Custer State Park on South Dakota Highway 87, to Keystone (to get some supplies), and then back to camp.

The day began with clear, sunny weather and a brief three-mile drive to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.   However, shortly after departing the memorial, it had begun to lightly rain, and soon a full on proper heavy rain (complete with some lightning and thunder).  It rained heavily for most of my short ride today.  It was a good thing that I left my rain gear well protected and dry back at camp for the day LOL.

Originally, I had planned for a much larger riding route for the day to include riding up to Deadwood, Sturgis, and down to Custer.  However, after the slow riding in the heavy rain, I was soaked and a little chilly (not terrible as it was about 80 degrees F).  So, I ended the ride early, got supplies in Keystone, and spent the rest of the day relaxing at camp.
