USA Midwest 2023, Day 1 of 16 September 1, 2023
I start from home in Douglasville, Georgia and roll northward via backroads through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and then take a ferry across the Ohio River into Illinois where I camped for the night at Tower Rock Campground near Cave-In-Rock, IL.
USA Midwest 2023 is my first long distance, multi-state motorcycle trip since my USA South 2020 motorcycle trip in October 2020 which was a one-way, long-distance motorcycle trip from Ramona, California (in the mountains near San Diego) to Douglasville, Georgia as part of our move from California to Georgia
Today’s total mileage was about 415 miles.
I was a bit surprised that I arrived at my campsite just past sunset. I was expecting to arrive a few hours prior to sunset. However, I encountered a fair amount of traffic and sometimes, very slow traffic, even in rural areas resulting in a slow roll (even slower than my normal slowness lol). There are just so many people in the Eastern United States compared to much of the west or from Minnesota where I am from. Of course, this viewpoint is also influenced by the fact that I live in the Atlanta metropolitan area whose traffic I feel, is much worse than even Los Angeles. Of course, through the magic of video editing, there is very little traffic congestion in this video, too bad we can’t do that in real life LOL. I like living in Georgia (also have lived in North Carolina in the 1990’s) but do miss the emptiness of allot of the west and the dramatic geography.
All in all , today was a successful launch of another motorcycle trip with visions of more exciting riding days to come.
