This coming weekend I will be riding out to the Myrle Beach, South Carolina area. An old high school classmate of mine, who goes by his stage name HBK, joined a high end tribute cover band, Hairball, a couple of years ago (2019 I think) as their bass player and supporting vocals. I hadn’t seen him perform since back in our high school days, now a few decades ago (OMG, I am getting old LOL). The band tours aggressively throughout the United States and from what I have seen online puts on a pretty entertaining high quality show. I had been wanting to see one of their shows since HBK joined up with them and this year they are touring close enough to me and my schedule was open (in 2019 they had played in Las Vegas while I was living in California but my schedule at the time was not cooperative). So, on Saturday October 2nd, which happens to also be my birthday, I will check them out and HBK playing at the 2021 Myrtle Beach Fall Rally in Murrells Inlet, SC (just south of Myrtle Beach). Should be fun!
Friday – October 1st, 2021

I am planning to roll out Friday morning between 9 or 10 AM and arrive at the RV resort no later than 7 PM. I will be tent camping at the resort. This will not be wilderness camping that I prefer but was a much more economical option than what hotel rooms are going for in and around Myrle Beach. Besides, I enjoy tent camping and I like to travel cheap when I can. Plus the RV resort has many amenities including laundry, showers, pool, pier and fishing pier, etc. As my wife knows, I will not be doing any swimming, I was born a land animal lol.
Total miles planned for Friday’s route is 411 Miles. I will be taking secondary highways for this trip avoiding Interstates for the entire trip. This is my preferred way to travel, especially on motorcycle. While the Interstate highways provide for normally fast and efficient travel, I also typically find it boring. I feel that riding a motorcycle on the Interstate reduces the immersion into the environment that I feel when I am riding on a 2 lane highway or county road. I don’t get to feel the character of the landscape or communities I am riding though while on the Interstate. Additionally, Interstates lack the interesting curves and beauty that smaller highways and county roads offer. There are of course times that I do ride the interstate as a means of covering many miles quickly, but my preference is certainly to avoid Interstate Highways.
Saturday – October 2nd, 2021
On Saturday, I will probably sleep in, I am not really a morning person. Once my lazy bones get up, I will roll into Myrtle Beach and check out some of the attractions (tourist traps), the beach (still not going to swim). Then I will head down to the Myrtle Beach Rally, check out some of the bikes and of course catch Hairball who is scheduled to take the stage at 9 PM.
Sunday – October 3rd, 2021

On Sunday, I roll back home taking a route a little south of the route on Friday heading to Myrtle Beach. Again, I will be avoiding the Interstates.
I will create videos and posts for the trip once I finish the videos for USA West 2020 and the Charlotte Weekend Trip. I will try and post some pics and a few updates on Saturday as time permits, but no promises 🙂
